The FDA allows more than 3000 different additives to be used in our food, and they're not all good for us. Here are the 4 worst offenders:

1. Aspartame: This artificial sweetener currently has 92 categories of complaints filed against it with the FDA. Aspartame contains three brain-damaging chemicals: aspartic acid, phenylalanine, and methanol. Besides causing weight gain, Aspartame has also been shown in studies to cause seizures and brain tumors in animals.

2. Sucralose: Sucralose is another artificial sweetener, and it's bad for you because it's actually sugar bonded to chlorine, which makes it a toxic "chlorocarbon." Chlorocarbons can cause migraines, dizziness, brain fog, anxiety, depression, and tinnitus (ringing ears). In addition, Sucralose makes it harder for your body to absorb nutrients and reduces the number of good bacteria in your gut.

3. Diacetyl: Diacetyl is what gives microwave popcorn its buttery flavor, and you guessed it, it's bad for your brain! That's because diacetyl is able to cross the blood-brain barrier, which is meant to protect your brain from harmful substances. Once it gets into your brain, diacetyl causes beta-amyloid clumping, which is a big factor in Alzheimer's disease. Stay away from any products that say "artificial butter flavor" on the label!

4. Monosodium Glutamate (MSG): MSG is found in processed foods, and once it's in your body it breaks down into glutamate, a known "excitotoxin" (excitotoxins literally stimulate your brain cells to death). Although MSG is found in just about everything, it's not required to appear on the label unless it's "100% pure MSG," which means products with 99% MSG don't have to let you know!

5 Foods You Should Never Eat

1. Canned Tomatoes: These are high in BPA, which is a toxic chemical linked to reproductive abnormalities, neurological problems, and in increased risk of breast cancer, prostate cancer, diabetes, and heart disease.

2. Margarine: This contains trans fats, free radicals, emulsifiers, preservatives, hexane, and other toxic solvents.

3. Table Salt: Regular table salt is not the kind of salt your body needs. Table salt contains chemicals including ferrocyanide and aluminosilicate, plus added iodine.

4. Vegetable Oils: These are highly processed, and when you consume these in large amounts they can distort the Omega-3 and 6 ratio in your body. The can also turn good cholesterol to bad cholesterol.

5. Processes Meats: Deli meats usually contain growth hormones, antibiotics, and other veterinary drugs. In addition, they usually contain sodium nitrate and other chemical flavors and dyes.
